Leadville, Silver Rush 50 mile mountain bike race

The Rush was more like a crawl to the finish for me this year. I had high expectations of beating my time last year. But last years training couldn't help me through the lack of this years. I felt great, riding good on my new bike. But lack of time in the saddle and the higher temps made the climbing Leadville Tough. Did I mention the course this year as a bit harder. More climbing!! Kyle encouraged me at the 25 mile turn around station. He didn't give me a chance to say much. He topped of the water and nutrition needs and off I went, with 10 minutes to spare from not making the cutoff. The course had beautiful flowers on the tougher climbs. New year I'm going back to meet my goals.

Lightening Stikes

It's a beautiful day. When you survive a strike! Kyle, a friend and I summited Longs peak by the loft route. On our return trip home on the Keyhole route we enccountered a storm. We were nearing the shelter on the East side of the keyhole, when we experienced the hit. My ice axe was in the right hand. There was a flash, boom, sizzle sounding (like frying bacon) the hair on my ride side of my head was being pulled up, and I felt like by right arm was being shaken, while my axe jerked out of my hand. Kyle was fine and in good position. He had thrown his axe was hunkered down. Our friend experienced what I felt, but stated he was knocked down. We are all OK. Waited it out in the shelter for several minutes, cached our axes and happily hopped on down the trail. Kyle went back up today for our gear.
